In effect, the slow stochastic uses the %D value from the fast stochastic calculation as its starting point. While the fast and slow stochastics look similar when plotted on a chart, the slow stochastic is smoother and less jumpy. It generates fewer and more reliable trading signals, but the signals appear more slowly than with the fast stochastic. Note: Some charting platforms permit you to specify different values for the moving average period, and some even permit you to change from an SMA to an EMA.

Below your chart on the SharpCharts Workbench (http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui), you find the fast and slow stochastics in the dropdown menu of the Indicators panel. Select whichever indicator you prefer, set the parameters that fit your needs, and then click Update. The stochastics indicator automatically appears on your chart. The default settings are the most common, but you can apply custom parameters if you please. You can also choose whether you want the indicator displayed above or below the primary price chart.
